Karan Rana — Tabla Percussionist

Karan Rana is an accomplished Hindustani classical vocalist and Tabla player whose musical journey began at the age of five. Trained by some of India’s most renowned maestros, Karan’s artistry is defined by a rare combination of melodic grace and rhythmic precision.

A prodigy in the Indian classical circuit, Karan made his debut on All India Radio’s (AIR) “Bal Jagat” at age 12, followed by regular Bhajan recitals on Jalandhar Doordarshan by age 16. His vocal prowess has earned him significant acclaim, including top honors at the prestigious 125th and 128th Harballabh Sangeet Sammelan and featured performances at the Malhaar Utsav. Known for his versatile and emotive voice, Karan has become a respected figure in musical circles for his dedication to the purity of the Hindustani tradition.

In addition to his vocal accomplishments, Karan is a highly skilled Tabla player, having commenced his training at the age of six. This deep-rooted rhythmic foundation allows him to bring a unique perspective to his performances. As an accompanist, he has shared the stage with a diverse array of vocalists and instrumentalists, including masters of the Flute and Veena. His ability to weave together the intricate patterns of the Tabla with melodic structures makes him a truly multi-faceted performer.

Now based in Edinburgh, Karan continues to represent the rich heritage of Indian Classical music across the United Kingdom. He is a frequent performer at renowned festivals and concert halls, where he captivates audiences with his dual mastery of voice and percussion.
