Centuries of History

Particularly significant groups of documents in the archive include: records of meetings of Chapter (the Cathedral’s governing body) from 1329 to the present, documents recording the repair and maintenance of the building during 1464-2000s, orders of service from the late 1800s onwards, medieval deeds and leases relating to properties in Salisbury, royal charters (including the 1215 Magna Carta) for 1136-1469, and baptism, marriage and burial registers.

A separate collection of documents created by the Salisbury Diocese and the Bishop of Salisbury’s Office is held by the Wiltshire & Swindon History Centre.
