Choir Recruitment

Could your child be a chorister?  Becoming part of this ancient, highly regarded tradition affords wonderful opportunities to the girls and boys involved.  Educated at Salisbury Cathedral School, choristers lead full and exciting lives with a weekly routine of practices and services enriched by regular concerts, broadcasts, recordings and foreign tours. Being an integral part of a totally committed team and working closely with colleagues in pursuit of excellence inevitably stands children in good stead for the future and their musical education is unparalleled.

The Cathedral and Salisbury Cathedral School run a hugely popular choir open day ('Be a Chorister for a Day') each year and there is also a Voice Trial Workshop in November. For your safety and that of your child it has been decided, due to Covid-19, to cancel Be a Chorister for a Day which was to take place on 10 October 2020 and the Voice Trial Workshop in on 7 November 2020. We were looking forward to welcoming lots of children and parents to the Cathedral and the Cathedral School for these events, but you and your child are now able to experience the life and singing of our choristers in your own home by watching the film below.

You can watch a full version of this film here.

We look forward to being able to set a date for our next choir open day, but in the meantime to receive information about future chorister recruitment events please click here to register your interest, and we will keep you updated.

Special virtual tour featuring our choristers and comedian, TV presenter and former chorister Alexander Armstrong coming 6 December!

The Director of Music, David Halls, would be delighted to hear any child in years 2, 3 or 4 for a pre-audition using Zoom. During this pre-audition your child will be asked to sing a short song which can be a hymn, a carol or a similar sort of song, followed by some ear tests. This is a useful and non-obligatory way to see whether your child could be a chorister and to ask about the opportunities available to children who are interested in choristerships. If you would like to arrange a date for a pre-audition or are interested in finding out more about the Voice Trial process and chorister life please contact Kathy Davies by email chorister.recruitment@salcath.co.uk, or by calling 07979378926.
