Becoming an Organ Scholar
The Organ Scholarship at Salisbury Cathedral is an ideal opportunity for a gap-year or postgraduate student to experience all aspects of cathedral music in a unique setting. The Organ Scholar works closely with David Halls and John Challenger, and works very regularly with the Cathedral Choir as an organ accompanist, and with the choristers in rehearsal. There are also conducting opportunities. Salisbury boasts an extensive line of former Organ Scholars, many of whom are now distinguished cathedral musicians.
David Halls, Director of Music, welcomes enquiries from potential Organ Scholars, and is available at any time to discuss at further length what the position involves. He can be contacted on 01722 555125, or at d.halls@salcath.co.uk.
Our current practice is to hold auditions in mid to late September (i.e. almost twelve months before the appointment begins). The application deadline is usually early in September, and the job details and an application form are usually available on the Cathedral’s website from July.
