Stonemasonry Works Yard Tours

We regret that given the current situation regarding COVID-19 we have made the difficult decision to suspend all tours until further notice - the Cathedral remains open for prayer and contemplation.

Our expert guides will show you around our Stonemasonry Works Yard, one of only nine cathedral yards in the country. Learn how 150 million-year-old blocks of Jurassic limestone weighing up to 5 tons are transformed to restore parts of the Cathedral. You’ll visit the Drawing Office where the conservators and stone specialists carry out conservation planning. And you’ll witness astounding hand-carving skills that have been practiced here since the 13th century.
