Salisbury Cathedral to take part in Big Give’s Christmas Challenge, raising vital funds to sustain choral music
Salisbury Cathedral will be taking part in Big Give’s annual Christmas Challenge this year, raising much-needed funds that will support young people joining the Cathedral choir.
Big Give is a charity formed in 2007, which matches public donations with philanthropists, foundations or corporates to match the donation, meaning double the impact for the charity.
The money raised will go to the Cathedral’s Choral Foundation, which provides bursaries to musically gifted children to enable them to join the Cathedral’s choir, regardless of their financial circumstances. Training to be a chorister is a life-changing opportunity for talented young singers and ensures a much-loved choral tradition remains at the heart of Cathedral life.
This year’s Christmas Challenge will run for one week, from midday on Tuesday 2 December to midday on Tuesday 9 December. During that time, any donations made to Salisbury Cathedral’s Choral Foundation will be doubled, up to £10,000.
As well as being able to give these vital bursaries to keen and musically talented children, it will also help preserve the rich musical heritage which has been a central part of Cathedral worship for centuries and give people a sense of community, with their busy programme of enriching outreach work for local schools, care homes, charities and surrounding parishes.
