An Evening with Sarah Jones
Join us for a thought-provoking evening with Sarah Jones, exploring the human experience of being transgender, faith, identity, and belonging in today’s society.
Drawing on her own personal journey, Sarah will share her experiences of being transgender within the Church of England, her public outing by the media, and the challenges and opportunities she has encountered throughout her ministry. The evening will also reflect on the current social and cultural landscape surrounding trans issues, including differing perspectives and the impact these debates have on people’s lives. The evening will include a question and answer session, offering an opportunity to explore topics directly with Sarah in an open and respectful setting.
This event is for anyone who would like to learn more, ask questions, and hear a personal story of faith and resilience.
About Sarah Jones
Sarah was the first person to be ordained in the Church of England having previously made a gender change. In 2005 she was outed to the media. The story was covered in newspapers, radio, television and blogs throughout the world.
She ministered in Hereford Diocese for 14 years before becoming the vicar of central Cardiff in 2018. Sarah is an Honorary Canon of Llandaff Cathedral and an Honarary Associate of The School of History, Law and Social Sciences at Bangor University.
Sarah talks to organisations, groups and media about sex and gender, diversity and inclusion. In June 2021 Sarah was awarded a Pride Award by Attitude Magazine and in November 2021 she was the subject of a BBC World Service radio programme. Sarah is regularly featured in the Welsh LGBTQIA+ Pinc List.
