Stories Behind The Stones

Salisbury Cathedral Cloisters
Dates 22 Jun 2023

A talk with Professor Lindy Grant and Clerk of Works, Gary Price

We are delighted to welcome Lindy Grant, Professor Emeritus of Medieval History at the University of Reading, for a fascinating talk entitled ‘Sponsoring Stones: Princely and Ecclesiastical patronage in the age of Salisbury Cathedral’.

Our Clerk of Works, Gary Price, will also give us an update on the restoration programme and the new project in the North Cloisters and Gareth Harris will join us for the evening with information about the bats that live in the Cathedral’s cloisters…

We are lucky to have 13 of 15 species of bats native to the UK living in and visiting Salisbury Cathedral and its grounds. Gareth, who is the county recorder for mammals has surveyed the bat population of the whole Cathedral and discovered some very interesting behaviour in our Cloisters.

Tickets are £10 to include a glass of wine.

The evening is in aid of the Cathedral’s Repair Programme.
