Pulling Out the Stops

Exhibition Mock-up pulling out the stops 2019

Whilst our famous Father Willis organ is being restored, a special interactive exhibition titled Pulling Out the Stops will be on display.

Location
North Transept

Dates
Saturday 16 February until November 2019

Times
Monday - Saturday 09:00 - 17:00
Sunday 12:00 - 16:00

Visitors will be able to learn about the rich history of the organ, from its installation in 1877 to the present day. This exhibition will feature a virtual organ, the first of its kind to be used inside a cathedral. Visitors will be able to play a keyboard and pull out stops on a touch screen to recreate the unique sound of our Father Willis organ!

Other interactive features will include a model organ, parts from the organ itself, viewing windows for seeing the restoration as it happens, a children's activity sheet and videos that take us behind-the-scenes.

There will be an opportunity to see the exhibition for even longer on 21 February, when our Cathedral will stay open from 18:30 to 20:00.

Watch the video below of John, our Assistant Director of Music, explaining why this restoration work is taking place.
