World’s oldest clock
Come and see the world’s oldest working mechanical clock in action! The clock was made of hand-wrought iron in or before 1386 and although it has ticked for centuries, its bell is usually silent.
During these demonstrations an expert guide gives a short talk and releases the striking mechanism so you can hear it ring – just as visitors in medieval times did.
Every Tuesday, Thursday after 11:00 and 10:30 on Saturdays, all year round.
Meet our stonemasons
Visit the cloisters and watch our talented stonemasons hard at work - it’s a sight to behold!
These amazing craftspeople use age-old skills to conserve and maintain this stunning building for future generations to enjoy.
Every Wednesday from May – October 2019 between 10:30 - 16:00
Please note that occassionally the cloisters are used for major events and these demonstrations may be cancelled. You can view dates of any changes to our daily routine here.
