Booking ahead: the essentials

In line with Government and Church of England guidelines ALL visitors are asked to book in advance and wear face coverings inside the Cathedral.

  • Please pre-book both Groups and FITs with the 'rule of six' built into your plans. This is to manage the number of people in the Cathedral at any one time, allowing visitors to socially distance in line with Government regulations and Church of England guidelines.

  • Salisbury Cathedral welcomes groups of up to 30, as long as they are separated into household/support bubble or party of six, in line with current Government legislation. All individuals should be sorted into their group of six/household or support group or ‘pod’ on arrival, and remain in that group or ‘pod’ during their visit.

  • All visitors should wear masks unless they are exempt, and social distancing rules apply to anyone not in your household/support bubble.

  • Tickets are issued in 30 minute blocks e.g. 70 tickets per hour. You must to arrive within your allocated 30-minute slot e.g. 12.00-12.30.


Rates and Payment

We offer special rates for groups of 10 or more. If you need further details, please email: Groups that have not booked in advance will not be given the group rate.

Payment can be made in advance, or by card (chip-and-pin or contactless) on the day. We are not accepting cash.

Travel Trade customers that visit regularly are welcome to join our voucher scheme, where we invoice you after the visit. Please email if you would like to join.


Opening Times

The Cathedral is open Mon-Sat from 10.00 - last entry is 15.00. Doors close at 16.00. We are not currently open to visitors on Sunday. The 1215 Magna Carta Exhibition is included in your Cathedral entrance. The exhibition opens at 10.30 and is closed on Sundays.

The Cathedral shop and Refectory restaurant are open Mon-Sat from 10.00 – 16.30. Last service in the Refectory is 16.00.

Groups bookings

  • Group ticket requests, including plans for adherence to 'rule of six' regulations, should be emailed to The group will be booked in under your company name or tour leader’s name with the relevant contact details. The bookings team will note the number of tickets required and reserve the spaces. Your ticket/barcode will then be emailed to you. You have up to 48 hours before the visit to amend numbers.

  • 48 hours before your group is due to visit, you will need to confirm your numbers, confirm your rule of six plans, and supply a contact name to This is for the purposes of track and trace, should it be needed. Details will be held for 21 days. 

  • Fixing your numbers at the 48-hour cut off is essential. You will be charged for all spaces reserved at this point, even if not used. Tour and group leaders should be included in the numbers - you will not be charged for them but we need their details on record.

  • On the day, please bring the ticket/barcode to gain entry. Please ask your visitors to arrive in their household bubble/support group/party of six and remain within that group throughout their visit. Social distancing must be observed at all times and face masks must be worn inside the building.

  • If your transport is unaccompanied, please designate an individual to bring it to the Front Desk. If your coach is unaccompanied, please ask the driver to remind visitors to stay in their household/support group or party of six for the duration of their visit, in line with current government legislation.
