Salisbury Cathedral has been advised of the need for essential and urgent repairs to the stonework of the High Street Gate which will require scaffolding to be erected outside the Gate to provide access to the works.
The scaffolding will be erected on Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th April and during this time it will be essential to close the gate to all traffic – both vehicle and pedestrian while the scaffolders are working.
During the two day period St Ann’s Gate will be open for access traffic and vehicles will exit by Harnham Gate. Large vehicles will not be permitted to access the Close until the High Street Gate is reopened on Thursday afternoon.
We very much regret the considerable inconvenience this work will cause but it is essential for public safety that the repairs are carried out. The works are expected to be completed in 3 weeks and there will be a further period of closure while scaffold is dismantled. We will confirm the dates for this as soon as we are able.
