If you are a worshipper at the Cathedral, please consider joining the 2019 Congregational Roll as a sign of your commitment to our life here.
We have to renew the roll from scratch every six years, so if you are on the existing roll you still need to apply for enrolment on the new one this year.
If you are over the age of 16, consider yourself a member of the Cathedral community and worship here, you should consider signing up, to show that you belong.
What is the Congregational Roll?
It is a list of people who are committed to being regular worshippers at the Cathedral.
Why do we need one?
For those who join it, it is an important expression of commitment to the worshipping life of the Cathedral.
For the Cathedral, which has many occasional worshippers, it is helpful to know who are its regular worshippers, and how many there are. That’s why it is important for it to be as accurate as it can be.
We are required by our Statutes to have a Roll, and that it should follow the requirements of the Church Representation Rules of the Church of England.
Why do we have to create a new Roll?
We are required by the Church Representation Rules of the Church of England to create a new Roll every six years.
This helps the Roll to reflect the reality of our present congregation. You can join the Roll at almost any time, but it is only when the Roll is recreated like this that we effectively exclude the names of those who no longer worship regularly with us but who had not previously withdrawn their names from the Roll.
2019 is the designated year and March-April the designated period in the Church Representation Rules.
Why would I want to register?
It is an important expression of commitment to the worshipping life of the Cathedral.
If you give permission, it enables the Cathedral to be in touch with you, to tell you about events or to invite you to be part of aspects of the Cathedral’s life, like the planned giving scheme.
What if I don’t want the Cathedral to be in touch with me?
It won’t, unless you give permission when you fill in your registration form.
Am I eligible?
You need to be what the Church Representation Rules call a ‘habitual worshipper’ for at least six months, be baptised and be 16 or more years old (or turning 16 during the next 12 months).
If you are a lay person and wish to be included on our Congregational Roll, please click here.
If you are already on the Roll you must re-join to continue your membership. Forms must be received on or before 28 April 2019 to allow the Cathedral to report the total number of members to the Diocese of Salisbury. After this date applications for enrolment will still be accepted in the usual way but will not be included in the total sent to the Diocese.
