From 18-21 July the Cathedral choir will be participating in the Southern Cathedrals Festival in Chichester Cathedral, an annual event which celebrates the friendship between the cathedrals of Chichester, Salisbury and Winchester.
During the Festival, sacred choral and organ music is presented both as concerts and within worship and will take place in the cathedral and at other iconic venues around the city. Choirs of the three cathedrals can be heard in combination and individually; guest musicians offer performances in a variety of genres from English song to jazz.
Within the cathedral itself, there are three choral concerts and four services (one recorded for broadcast by the BBC), recitals, and a performance by the superb West Sussex Youth Wind Orchestra. The Festival culminates in a performance of J. S. Bach’s St John Passion, in which the choirs are joined by an exciting line-up of soloists, and the acclaimed period-instrument orchestra Florilegium.
Evening entertainment is also available in a Grand Marquee in the beautiful setting of Chichester’s Deanery Gardens: a Fish n’ Chip Supper on Friday 19 July at 8pm, and a Jazz and Hog Roast Evening on Saturday 20 July at 8pm. Tickets are available online and also from the Chichester Cathedral shop.
