Would you like to have a go at stone masonry under the tutelage of one of our own Cathedral masons? Whether you have little or no experience of the craft of stone carving you will be taken each step of the way on the course, which will be tailored to your needs, by one of the Cathedral’s own Masons.
The 2 day course will also include a workshop tour with either our Clerk of Works or Head Mason and an optional *tower tour on the Friday.
Please note that the course will be outside, but under cover, in a gazebo located in the Works Department, which has been on the same site since the laying of the first foundations of the Cathedral. The workshop tour, at the start of the course, could be a source of inspiration for you**.
*(A tower tour involves climbing narrow spiral staircases comprising 332 steps, please see more information here. Please note there is no need to book a tour as it will be included with the course should you wish to take one).
Anything you make is yours to take home at the end of the workshop, if you run out of time sets of chisels will be on sale so you can finish your item at home.
On all of the 2020 dates you will be taught how to carve either a green man or a flower panel. On the final course for the year (30 - 31 July) you can chose to do either the flower panel, green man or an item of your own choice.
Tickets: £150 for two days which includes an optional tower tour
