Thursday 9th December 2021

14:00 - 15:00
About the event

Join one of our Stonemasonry Works Yard tours and take a behind-the-scenes look at the vital work of our stonemasons. Led by an expert guide, you will also get a rare opportunity to explore one of only nine English Cathedral works yards in the country.

Discover how 150 million-year-old blocks of upper Jurassic Limestone, weighing up to 5 tonnes, are transformed and shaped to restore this remarkable building. You will also visit the Drawing Office, where conservation is planned and templates for replacement stones are drawn up by our masons.

During the tour, you’ll get to meet our talented stonemasons and see their incredible craftmanship in action. Learn first-hand from them about the hand-carving techniques they use to preserve our heritage and the skills that were used originally to build the Cathedral over 800 years ago.

Tours are £70.00 and can be booked privately for just yourself, or you can share the experience with up to 3 other friends or family – the choice is yours!

The Stonemasonry Works Yard tours run weekly and there’s a limited number available – pre-booking is essential in order to secure your date of choice and avoid disappointment.
