The Miracle Paintings by Prof Stephen Farthing RA
Stephen Farthing’s, intriguing, and vibrant Miracle paintings will adorn the stone walls of Salisbury Cathedral from 23 August – 23 October 2018. These paintings have never been seen before as he wished for them to be shown together in a context where these concepts may be realised, a space where faith may be celebrated. Every day we take for granted all that is miraculous around us, from music to sight.
Stephen does not wish to illustrate stories or understand the miracles, but to capture the energy. To give a visual presence to a miraculous moment. He says, ”I have come to the conclusion that what makes an event or indeed a painting, ‘miraculous’, is our inability to explain it in any other terms than by saying, ‘this is what I saw’."
