Join Emily Naish, Cathedral Archivist, who will look at the contemporary 13th-century documents available to us today which record why Salisbury Cathedral decided to make the momentous decision to relocate from Old Sarum to its present site. These documents range from a letter sent by Pope Honorious III and a 13th-century poem to indulgences issued to fund the new building work. Some original sources can be found in the Cathedral’s own archive and some in the care of other libraries. A selection of these unique documents will be available to view after the talk.
