11:00 - 12:00
Come and join us for the first of two talks uncovering the story behind Salisbury Cathedral’s famous ‘Father Willis’ organ. This fairly light-hearted talk given by Alan Willis will introduce the main players involved in the building of the Father Willis organ in the 1870’s. It will reveal how the world of Trollope's Barchester really existed in 19th century Salisbury! The material will come entirely from little-known contemporary letters and documents kept in the Cathedral archive and recently transcribed by archive volunteers. A second talk, covering the progress and completion of the organ and its case will be given on 26th February 2020 11am.
Alan has been a volunteer Cathedral steward for many years: despite his name Alan is not related to Father Willis!
