Beyond the Library Door Discovery Day

Come and join us for a special binding focused library discovery day as part our Beyond the Library Door Project. The Library will be open from 09:00 with special events happening at the following times:
 
11:00-12:30 Bindings in the Cathedral Library.   
A talk by Dr Anne Dutton, assistant librarian.  Anne will be talking about some of the book bindings she is recording in our new catalogue database followed by an opportunity to see the books close up.  
 
14:00-16:30 Drop In Book Binding Workshop: 
Have a go at making a simple bound notebook.  Suitable for adults and children over 8yrs.  Younger children can have a go at decorating a medieval illuminated letter.

During your visit, do not miss An exhibition of decorated bound books - Ancient and Modern in our beautiful library. Ancient leather bound and embossed books will be displayed alongside examples of the modern art of decorative bindings created by members of the Wessex Guild of Bookbinders.  

These events are funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
