In this talk, Charles Saumarez Smith will examine examples of church art produced during the last thirty years and displayed in churches and cathedrals either temporarily or more permanently, including the work of Bill Viola, Stephen Cox and Alison Watt, as well as three recent architectural works, the Bishop Edward King Chapel at Ripon College, Cuddesdon, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Gallery in Westminster Abbey and the recent refurbishment of St. Augustine’s, Hammersmith.
Sir Charles is currently the Senior Director of Blain|Southern and former Chief Executive of the Royal Academy of Arts. He is a British cultural historian specialising in the history of art, design and architecture and has been a judge on many major art and architecture prizes such as the Stirling Prize for Architecture and the BP Portrait Award.
