Occasionally the Cathedral, or parts of it, may need to close or only offer restricted access for a service, special event or day to day maintenance. We try to minimise these periods as much as we can, as we know that people travel long distances to visit us. As soon as we know about a closure it will be posted below. Please remember to check for last minute changes prior to your visit as some events, such as funerals, are only arranged at short notice.
Monday 7th to Friday 11th July
Over 300 Year 6 pupils from all over the Diocese will be taking part in daily workshops (10.30 -12 noon) and special services (13.30 - 14.00) to mark their transition from primary to seconday school during this week. The Cathedral will remain open but please be aware that there will more noise and bustle than usual and that access in the Nave will be restricted during the service.
Saturday 12th July
The Cathedral will be open to visitors from 12.45pm.
A wedding will take place between 2.30pm and 3.30pm in the Quire. Visitors are welcome but access will be restricted to the east end of the Cathedral during the service.
Monday 14th July
Visitors are welcome but there may be sound checking noise in the afternoon.
Tuesday 15th July
From 2pm – 3.45pm the Trinity Chapel will be closed to visitors for a memorial service.
Sunday 20th July
Due to an earlier Evensong service the Cathedral floor will close to visitors at 2pm. The Chapter House will be open as normal.
Saturday 26th July
From 12.30 – 2.15pm the Trinity Chapel will be closed to visitors for a wedding.
Monday 15th December to Thursday 12th February 2015
In preparation for our new Magna Carta exhibition in 2015 - the Chapter House and Magna Carta are expected to be inaccessible between 15th December 2014 and 12th February 2015.
