Letter Cutting

The Queen with her letter cut commemorative plaque created by the Works Department

Letter cutting is the art of inscribing characters into the face of a piece of stone or wood. Our masons, who are trained in this discipline do so only by hand, they undertake letter cutting onto grave markers and we add the name of new Bishops to a plaque in the Cathedral. We were also commissioned to make a commemorative stone for the opening of the Salisbury Law Courts when they opened their new premises in Wilton Road and have been honoured to have created two commemorative plaques for visits by the Queen; one when she distributed Maundy money at the Cathedral in 1974 and again in 2012 for her Diamond Jubilee. We can also undertake external letter cutting contracts to your own specification, please contact us buildings@salcath.co.uk
